Roberta Charles Psilas, age 69, was born on April 2, 1957, and passed away on her birthday, April 2, 2026. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted, humorous, and wise presence whose warmth drew people in and made them feel instantly at ease.
Born and raised in Denver, CO, Roberta was the youngest of three children, with her brother Daniel and her sister Rosemarie. Precocious and truly special, she had a unique way of attracting people who naturally wanted to look after her and dote on her. Her father passed at an early age, and following his passing, her mother Marion remarried to John Smith, who continued to raise the children and became a wonderful father to them.
Roberta had a lot of fun at school and attended the same school alongside her sister, Rosemarie. Together they shared joy, friendships, and—by their own telling—more than a little trouble along the way. Their bond endured throughout life, and Roberta remained an integral part of Rosemarie’s world; they were, as family lovingly described, like peas and carrots, sharing the same circles and communities.
While serving as a bridesmaid at a wedding, Roberta fell for her future husband, George Psilas. The couple later married in 1976 and built a family together, raising six children: Nickolaos, John, Elizabeth, Christopher, Nicole, and E.J. She was a great mother who worked to ingrain respect and ethics into her children—values that remain part of her legacy.
For most of her career, Roberta worked as a dry cleaning processor. She threw herself into her work and developed a deep knowledge of fabrics and cleaning methodology that made her an expert in her field. Her sister, Rosemarie, gave her the nickname “Sudsy” as a fun street name among her Atlanta friends and coworkers. Through the years she made many friends in the business, and she especially enjoyed working at the counter helping others. People were drawn to the genuineness she exuded, and she had a gift for making others smile.
Roberta was also known as Aunt Bobbie, and she was a wonderful aunt to her niece, Kerissa, and nephew, Jamie. She treated them with the same love she gave her own children, and they remained very close to her.
In honor of Roberta’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Please share memories of Roberta with the family at www.nationalcremation.com.
