Rick Strause, 78, formerly of Riverside, California, passed away on October 30, 2026. Born June 24, 1948, Rick was a beloved and cherished presence in the lives of many, remembered for his gentle steadiness, hard-working spirit, wise counsel, and unwavering honesty.
Rick grew up in Edmonton, Canada with his mother and brother, later relocating to Newport Beach, CA. With the sponsorship and help of his aunt, he found his path to becoming a US citizen at the age of 21 years old. He attended New Port Harbor High School alongside many famous children, building the early foundations of the life he would go on to lead with quiet determination and integrity.
Rick married the love of his life, Roxie, and together they built a home defined by warmth and welcome. They had two children, and his home was always open to the community. A great family man and a good father who showed up for the important moments, Rick was a role model who taught integrity not by speeches, but by the example of a life lived with honesty and purpose. He loved being a Grandpa and was deeply proud of his family.
A hard-working provider with a strong sense of responsibility, Rick owned his own air conditioning company, Ample Air Systems. Founded in 1980, the business reflected his steady work ethic and commitment to doing things the right way until his retirement in 2006. One of his lasting gifts to his daughters was creating the opportunity for them to be both great mothers and full time employees without having to choose, supporting them within the family business with practical wisdom and steadfast care.
In his personal life, Rick loved being a cowboy—riding horses and wrangling cattle—finding simple satisfaction in honest work and the open air.
Rick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Roxie Strause; his daughters, Cheri Gardea (Anthony) and Tina Griego (John); his grandchildren, Marisa, Austin, Jonah and Justus; and his great-grandchildren, Alahna and Audrey. He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Strause.
Special thanks to family friends, Bob and Maggie Woosley, for the support that they provided to Rick and the family above and beyond.
Private services are to be held.
