

Nancy was born on May 12, 1942, in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Frances and Simeon Andrew Roane. She spent her early years there before eventually settling in Marietta, Georgia, where she lived for most of her life.
She is survived by her two sons, David Andrew Carter (Jinny) of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Branen Wade Straughan (Jill) of San Diego, California. Nancy was a devoted grandmother to Annie Carter Lipsitz (Jake), Peyton Roane Carter, Breckyn Jeffrey Straughan and Annaliesa Elaine Potter. She is also survived by her loving brothers and sisters, Temple Martin Roane, Sally Roane Helms, and Sherry Roane Thomas, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Peter Andrew Roane.
Nancy wed Captain Robert V. Carter, US Air Force in 1961, becoming instant mother to Linda Lee House, Robert L. Carter and Debra C. Ames and later, first born, David Andrew Carter in 1964. Divorced in 1971, Nancy and Andrew relocated to Georgia.
There she married Ronald E. Straughan in 1975 and welcomed her second son, Branen Wade Straughan, the following year. Nancy and Ron shared a devoted marriage, happy life with friends and family, in and around Atlanta until Ron’s passing in 2018.
In 2021, Nancy was blessed to wed Bruce Wayne Bartlett Sr. (Wayne), embracing her new Bartlett family with her longstanding and continuing their later lives together until his recent passing March 2026.
The Straughan, Roane, Carter and Bartlett families were central to her life. Nancy took great pride and genuine interest in each family member's life and accomplishments. She was a driving force behind celebrations, holidays, and special occasions—always planning (often as the self-appointed "cruise director") and joyfully participating in the fun. She also loved to shop, and her sisters cherish the many outings they shared together.
Nancy never met a stranger. Her outgoing nature and generous spirit led to a wide circle of friends and a life rich in meaningful connections. She was always eager to help others and gave her time generously through volunteer work in many capacities, including hospice care. A devoted member of East Cobb United Methodist Church and an active participant in the choir for many years.
Nancy especially loved time spent at the beach. Family gatherings at Hilton Head, and Litchfield Beach, South Carolina as well as trips to Orange Beach, Alabama. with the "Cheers" group, were among some of her happiest memories.
Nancy enjoyed a successful career with AMP Incorporated, HOW (Home Owners Warranty), Homeland Communities and later became one of the Directors with Pampered Chef, enabling her to share her love of cooking. She eventually retired after 18 years with Wellstar Health System, where she was greatly valued and awarded for her service of warmth and exceptional people skills.
A memorial service will be held at East Cobb United Methodist Church, 2325 Roswell Road, Marietta, on April 11, 2026. Visitation 11:00 am – 1:00 pm; Celebration of Life 1:30 pm and reception following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to East Cobb United Methodist Church in Marietta, Georgia.
