Magaline “Maggie” Sewell, 87, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away on April 21, 2026. Born on August 18, 1938, Maggie was born and raised in Newnan, GA, and carried a lifelong steadiness rooted in faith and a deep regard for family and community.
The ninth of ten children, Maggie was the sole survivor of her siblings—a distinction that spoke not only to the length of her years, but to the quiet strength with which she bore both memory and love.
Maggie met and married her husband, James M. Sewell, and together they built a life shaped by devotion and duty, relocating as James’ career in the US Army took them from place to place. Throughout those years, Maggie’s calling was clear in the home she kept and the people she nurtured. She devoted herself to the work of a homemaker and mother, and in midlife she extended that same steady care to others as a nanny—offering patience, warmth, and practical kindness in the daily rhythms of family life.
A natural caregiver, Maggie made her life about care for others. Her compassion was not performative, but constant—expressed in the way she showed up, the way she listened, and the way she gave of herself without hesitation. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, and her generosity of spirit will be remembered as one of the truest measures of her life.
Maggie is survived by her son, Joel Sewell (significant other, Laura Suitter); her son, Jeff Sewell; her grandchildren, Savannah Sewell Wilson, Slade Sewell, and Kayleigh Sewell; eight great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
Maggie will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, James M. Sewell, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Her life leaves a legacy of faithful love, compassionate service, and generous devotion—gifts that will continue to be felt in the family she cherished and the lives she touched.
