A John-of-all-trades, self taught handyman, who could fix just about anything, he approached life the same way he approached a project: with patience, determination, creativity, and a well-worn toolbox of skills. At 90, on May 8, 2026, a beloved father, brother and favorite uncle to many, laid down his tools and returned home.
Born December 3, 1935, to Clara and John Lepak, and fifth child of eight, John Lepak, Jr. learned how strong foundations are built on brotherhood, adventure, and love.
After serving in the Army, stationed in Germany, he returned to Milwaukee to work for Irv's Radio and Appliance. It was during that time he met and married Marlene (Gruszynski). In 1965, he started working at Briggs & Stratton as a tool and die cutter. Together, John and Marlene, built a life centered on family, hard work and adventure. They traveled the US and Europe, renovated a large farmhouse in West Bend, ran a furniture refinishing business, and kept a beautiful vegetable garden. Eventually, they retired to a lake house in Crivitz, another renovation of love, and spent winter months in Florida.
After Marlene’s death in 2003, John met Mary Rose (Head), his second wife, with whom he created more memories in the Crivitz area, listening to music, visiting casinos, and time spent with friends at the local bar.
John leaves behind the family he built: his daughters, Lianne, Michelle (Dave), and Genee (Dennis); grandchildren, Justin (Becca), Joshua (Samantha), Genevieve (Chris), Lindsey, and Allie (Oreste); and great-grandchildren, Kaylee (Austin), Gabriel (Gabby), Corbin, Carina, and Deklin.
He is also survived by his sisters: Clare Cyganek and Julie Kaczmarek, many nieces and nephews, and Mary’s children and their families.
Though his hands are finally at rest, the things Dad built will endure in the lives he touched, homes he restored, and the lessons he passed down. Dad loved to drink beer, watch the Green Bay Packers, listen to music and slow dance, if given the chance. We rejoice knowing Dad is now free of pain, reconnected with his memories, and reunited with his loved ones.
The family is planning celebrations of life events in Milwaukee and Crivitz. Visitation will be at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home in Crivitz, WI on June 6th from 10-noon, with a private family burial to follow. In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be laid to rest beside Marlene in Crivitz.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to follow Dad’s lead by considering a contribution to your local library, dementia charity, or Habitat for Humanity.
