Jean Leary, age 89, passed on August 19, 2026. Born August 11, 1937, in Woodsfield, Ohio, Jean’s life reflected steady strength and a gracious spirit shaped by humble beginnings, including growing up in a “chicken coop.”
Jean married William “Bill” Leary and moved to Hinkley, Ohio, where they raised their four children in a modern, three-bedroom ranch-style home. She later devoted herself to caring for others through her work as a private caregiver in many family homes—offering practical help, steady kindness, and a generosity that made people feel seen and supported. Bright and engaged, Jean had a thoughtful way of ensuring that information was shared accurately, and she did so with an upbeat presence that put others at ease.
Jean later relocated to Jefferson, Georgia, where she lived for over 35+ years. She found deep enjoyment in gardening, cultivating a flourishing garden in every corner of her yard, and she also maintained an aquatic environment for frogs and box turtles. She was an avid bird watcher and ensured they had food supplied throughout the year. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church Auburn.
Jean was preceded in death by her former husband, William “Bill” Leary, and her daughter, Sharyl Allen.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Spears; her sons, Mark W. Leary and Joseph D. Leary; her grandchildren, Tara, Christie, Lisa, and Sean; her great-granddaughter, Misty; and her dogs, Amelia & Tiki.
A celebration of life will be planned for the future. Jean will be laid to rest at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
