Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. For 55 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Raili. Together they built a life filled with partnership, laughter, and simple joys. In their younger years, they loved going out dancing, moving across the floor to everything from the waltz to the fox trot. Later, in their retirement, they started out each day together playing a game of cards.
From an early age, Jack was known for his leadership, determination, and strong work ethic. In high school, he served as class president all four years and was named valedictorian, while also playing (and excelling in) three sports. After graduation, he began working in a steel mill before building a long and dedicated career at Allison Gas Turbine, where he specialized in creating intricate wax molds used in the production of engine parts. He took great pride in his work and the craftsmanship it required.
Even in retirement, Jack rarely slowed down. He always liked to keep busy and could often be found helping neighbors with remodeling projects or happily passing hours landscaping his yard. When he did stop to rest, his favorite place to relax with his beloved dog was on his porch in North Carolina, overlooking the woods.
Jack loved sharing stories about the “good ol’ days,” bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. Whether telling a story, offering advice, or simply spending time with family, he had a way of making ordinary moments feel special.
Jack was a proud member of the Beard Masonic Lodge, No. 641 for 53 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Raili; his children, Bryan Scott (Julie), Leisa Malone (Stephen), and Deanna Franco (Luis); his grandchildren, Bradley (Kimi), Isabella, and Gabrielle; and his great-grandchild (Cooper).
A memorial service will be held for family in May.
Jack always told stories about the kindness from his community enabling him to play and succeed during his sports career, from providing equipment to giving rides for practices and games. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to Leveling The Playing Field, (www.levelingtheplayingfield.org/), an organization dedicated to providing sports equipment and assistance to children from under-resourced communities.
He will be deeply missed, but the love he shared and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
