

Rusty was born on June 12,1947 in Memphis,Tennessee to Jack James and Gloria Gregory. He was raised in Sardis, Mississippi while his Master Sergeant Father served overseas. He was the joy of his extended family which included grandparents, aunts, uncles ,cousins and Mom. When his Father returned to the states, the family was transferred to Ft Stewart, Ga and then to Ft McPherson in 1961.
After learning to play golf at Ft Stewart at the age of 10, Rusty found the love for the game. While living in the Atlanta area he won many local and state tournaments as a Junior player and Championships throughout Georgia and the South.He played on the Russell High School Golf Team and graduated in 1965. He was also the Club Champion at Ft McPherson.
Upon graduation he was awarded a Golf Scholarship to the University of Tennessee, where he was a 3 year letterman and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Transportation/Logistics. While at Tennessee, Rusty was a member of the Air Force Officers Training Program and was voted Cadet of the Year as a Senior. Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. During his years of service, he attained the rank of Captain and was a member of the Air Force Golf Team. While stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio,Texas he was the Chief of Air Traffic Control.
After leaving the Air Force, Rusty became the Club Professional at Easton Country Club In Easton, Md. He later became the Head Pro at Westmoreland Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pa .He enjoyed sharing his
love of the game with the students he taught and took pleasure in watching them excel.
His career in Transportation/ Logistics spanned over 30 years while working with J.C. Penney, J & R Schugel, Americold and Florida East Coast Railroad.
He and his wife Lane enjoyed spending time at the beach and in the Ga Mountains, going on cruises and trips, cheering on UGA and Tennessee, and visiting friends and family. Rusty loved playing golf with his boys and watching his grandsons play baseball. He adored his daughter and grand daughter and was so very proud of them all.
Rusty was a member of and loved Peachtree Presbyterian Church. He was in the Credence Sunday School Class and attended the Ironman Men's Study Group. He was a man known for putting his family and friends before self and as a true Christian who walked the walk.
He leaves behind his Sister, three children, their spouses, 4 grandchildren 2 nephews and many cousins. They include his Son Michael Rhyan Gregory (Rachel) grandson's Maddux and Rocklan, Son Matthew Chase Gregory (Kheila) Daughter Alexis Marilyn Gregory Holden (Toy) grandson Abram and granddaughter Madison, Sister Beth Gregory Barron (David N Guice), Nephews Evan Tyler Barron (Brittni) Emmie and Brooke and Taylor Colt Barron (Ali Kathryn) Wife Lane B. Long, Son Andrew (Kelly) Tolly and Penn and Son, Nelson (Becca) Harrison.
Rusty was a dearly loved Son, Brother, Father, Uncle, Grandfather and Husband. He was a principled,Christian man who will be truly missed by all that knew him.
Committal Services will be held on Monday, June 12 @ 1:30, Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia 30114
