Gertrude R. VanMorris

Gertrude was the youngest of three children, with a sister, Ruth, and a brother, Joe. She graduated from Norristown High School and went on to build a steady and valued working life as a career secretary, including service with the American Baptist Convention and later in several attorney offices.

Gertrude made her family the center of her life. She was a good mother—deeply understanding—and her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was evident in the care she gave.

She also found everyday joy in simple, sustaining interests. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening, and she especially liked having plants and flowers blooming all year round on her porch.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, R. Byron VanMorris Jr.; her son, Mark VanMorris; her sister, Ruth Newman; and her brother, Joe Simon.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Bowen (Allen); her grandchildren, Kristi Mercer (Wayne), Daniel Bowen (Miranda), Katie Bowen, and David Bowen (Lydia); 16 great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Ron Newman (Pat).
