Donald “Donny” Joseph Robertson III of Newnan, Georgia passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the age of 76. Donny was born on September 25, 1949, in Bronx, New York, and grew up in the Rockaways in Queens, New York. One of seven children, he carried forward a steady resilience and a strong will that shaped the way he met life—showing up, pushing through, and providing for those he loved.
From an early age, Donny found joy in sports, especially basketball, and that love of play stayed with him. He was actively involved in games and gatherings, and his sense of humor—often expressed by teasing the people he loved most—was part of what made time with him memorable. Both sides of the family shared a deep love of fun, and Donny helped pass that spirit down through multiple generations through Yahtzee, dominoes, volleyball, and the treasured Long Beach traditions.
Donny graduated from Far Rockaway High School. He built a life defined by hard work and dependability, working as a truck driver for Rizzo, Loeb & Mayer, and also Arrow/Krystal Fruits. He genuinely enjoyed working, and when mandatory retirement due to disability came, it was a difficult transition—an honest reflection of how much pride he took in staying busy and doing his part.
Donny met the love of his life at a park playing handball, beginning a story rooted in loyalty and enduring commitment. They were together for four years until marrying in 1969. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Doran Robertson; children, Christine Angst, Trisha Rivelli, Donald “DJ” Robertson IV (predeceased, Kim Abramson Robertson), Carolyn Hollingshead (Keith), and twins, Billy Robertson and Tommy Robertson (who was younger by 1 minute); granddaughters, Jordan, Lexi, Amanda, Nicolette, Charlie Ann, Ellie, and Chloe; grandsons, Joshua, Joseph, and Jake; siblings, Pat (Ginny), Susan (predeceased, Doug), Tommy (Diane), Janice (JP), Linda, and (predeceased) Nancy; aunt, Marie; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Family life was marked by traditions that became touchstones: family vacations, the Robertson Family Olympics, the Jones Beach Christmas Light Show, the Sangenerio Feast, and summers at Long Beach, Long Island—moments where laughter, competition, and togetherness naturally found their place.
A celebration of Donny’s life will be planned for the future in New York.
