Donald R. Hink, age 102, passed away peacefully, just one month shy of his 103rd birthday. Born on May 25, 1923, in Moline, Illinois, he lived a long and full life marked by dedication, service, and an enduring love of family and community.
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Donald enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for five years in Europe during World War II. As a master mechanic, he played a critical role in maintaining and repairing aircraft, contributing to the war effort with skill and precision.
After his military service, Donald built a long and respected career with Clinton Corn Processing in Clinton, Iowa, working as a millwright. In this role, he was responsible for installing, dismantling, maintaining, and repairing heavy industrial machinery—work that reflected his strong work ethic and technical expertise.
Donald spent the past 20 years in Canton, Georgia, including the last eight years at The Arbor at BridgeMill, a Senior Living Community, where he was part of a close-knit community of residents and wonderful caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margie Hink, and his son, Stephen Hink. He is survived by his children, David Hink and his wife Lisa; Susan Hemenway and her husband James; and Robert Hink. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy.
Donald and Margie shared a vibrant and active life together. They spent countless days on the golf course, where together they achieved an extraordinary ten holes-in-one. Donald continued to play competitively into his late nineties, a testament to both his skill and his passion for the game. In addition to golf, they were deeply involved in championship bridge and world-class square dancing, building friendships and memories along the way.
He was known for his exceptional memory, sharp mind, and engaging presence—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
A military interment service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on May 8th at 9:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at the home of David and Lisa Hink in Cumming, Georgia.
