Dennis “Denny” Flinchbaugh, 79, of Covington, Georgia, passed away March 29, 2026. Denny was born October 14, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan, to Carl J and Arlene (Ross) Flinchbaugh.
Denny served his country in the United States Marine Corps from March 1966 to December 1969, including a tour in Vietnam. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. While home on leave in the summer of 1968, he met his future wife, Janet Ann Betts. They were married June 14, 1969, in Potterville, Michigan.
After his service, Denny built a long and steady career in communications, drawing on his education and training in radio relay and repair. He worked first with Michigan Bell in Lansing, Michigan, and then with Mountain Bell in Phoenix, Arizona, which eventually became AT&T. When the opportunity arose, he relocated to Georgia with AT&T, where he retired after 43 years of dedicated work.
In the quieter rhythms of home and family life, Denny found joy in being an avid reader and in his video games. He also loved traveling the states with his wife, his daughters and niece, and later with his grandsons—taking many trips, especially along the beaches of the Atlantic, where time together became its own lasting gift.
Denny is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet; daughters, Cathy Flinchbaugh and Wendy Gaynes; grandchildren, Matthew and Cristin (Williams) Gaynes, Wyatt Gaynes, Cyrus Hitson, and Aubrey Hitson; and great-granddaughter, Bella Gaynes. He is also survived by niece, Celia (Betts) Hitson, and Jeffrey Gaynes, who he thought of as his own children. Denny leaves behind his mother in law, Betty Betts (Rathburn); brother, Gary (Carrol) Flinchbaugh; brothers in law, Ray (Luanne) Betts, Ronald (Sandy) Betts, and Rodney (Janine) Betts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Arlene, as well as father in law, Ray Betts.
Denny requested to not have any funeral services. A portion of his ashes will be buried at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia, and the remaining will be scattered by his family somewhere that Denny would have enjoyed taking them.
