Dr. Clemmie James Hall, 92, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born October 2, 1933, he was a longtime resident of Covington, Georgia. Known to many as Grandpa Hall, and affectionately hailed as “King Clem,” he was, to his family and to all who knew his story, a star—always was, and forever will be. Across generations, the reach of his generosity and fortitude was deeply felt and internationally recognized, leaving a legacy shaped by perseverance, excellence, faith, and love.
Grandpa Hall’s life began amid the hardships of sharecropping, and he courageously journeyed north with his family in search of greater opportunity. From those early trials, he built a life anchored in strong family ties, becoming the proud father of nine healthy children. His devotion to family remained constant throughout his life, and in his later years he retired to Georgia, where he gave his love and attention to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for the remainder of his time here.
A veteran, hero, and prisoner of war, Grandpa Hall carried forward with resolve. He worked tirelessly through multiple jobs, rebuilding himself again and again, always determined to provide for his family. His disciplined pursuit of learning led him to earn a PhD, and he went on to become a renowned mathematics professor in the Newark school system—respected for his knowledge, his wisdom, and the steady standards he set for himself and others.
His faith in God guided him, while his love of travel and passion for life kept his spirit expansive. Even in the most serious seasons, he was remembered for his humor—an enduring light that drew people close and made the weight of life easier to carry.
He is survived by siblings, his beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family, friends, and former students who will continue to cherish his memory. Though he is no longer with us in body, Grandpa Hall will live forever in our minds and hearts.
Rest in Power, King Clem. Rest in Honor, Dr. Clem James Hall.
