

Charles Meddis Goodson of Duluth, Georgia passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 of natural causes. He was born at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on October 9, 1938 and grew up in the Emory/Druid Hills community, graduating from Druid Hills High School in 1956. Charles was one of few who attended the school all the way through from first grade to high school graduation.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. Afterward, he attended Georgia State and Georgia Tech, then entered the lumber and construction business where he remained until his retirement in 2006 from Plymart, Inc. He often remarked that he had "pine sap in his veins." In his younger years he was an avid sport parachutist. Later, he traded his parachute for a pilot's license. In short, being up in the air was his lifelong passion.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Duluth, GA.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Edward F. Goodson, his mother, Edna Meddis Goodson, his sisters Jean Thompson Parrish of Decatur and Mary Ann Rogers of Frankfurt, KY, and his brothers, Dallas S. Thompson of Duluth, GA and Edward Pope Goodson of Frankfurt, KY.
He is survived by his three sons, David S. Goodson of Atlanta, GA; Dodd S. Goodson, his wife Samantha and their daughter, Hannah Katherine Goodson of Foley, AL; Christopher L. Goodson, his wife Mary Ruth Manlapas and their children, Jarrett P. Goodson and Samuel G. Goodson, of Roswell, GA; numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Joyce A. Cooper.
A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Duluth, GA, on Sunday, September 10th at 1:00 PM.
