Carolyn Ann (Obergfell) Landy of Ellijay, Georgia passed away on April 23, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on November 11, 1934, in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. Carolyn was a woman of steady grace and warmth, whose gift for caring for others was evident throughout her life and in the many relationships she nurtured with family and friends.
After graduating from nursing school in South Jersey, Carolyn worked as a nurse in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she met her husband, Ernest “Ernie,” a physician. They were happily married for 56 years, building a life rooted in devotion, companionship, and the simple joys of time well spent together.
Carolyn and Ernie raised their four children—Jeanne, Timothy, John, and Michael—in New Jersey, spending most of those years in Oradell. They enjoyed being part of the Hackensack Golf Club, where they shared many days of golf, tennis, and easy conversation with friends. In retirement, they remained active, purchasing a home in Venice, Florida, and dividing their time between Venice and Wayne, New Jersey. Carolyn especially enjoyed golfing in Venice, and she found joy in needlework, crafts, and the laughter with those she loved.
Carolyn and Ernie spent a great deal of time not only with their immediate family, but also with an extended circle of siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends—relationships that reflected Carolyn’s sociable spirit and her deep appreciation for connection and community.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Obergfell; her mother, Edith Obergfell; her husband, Ernest Nicholas Landy; her son, Timothy John Landy; and her brothers, Howard Obergfell and Henry Obergfell.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Cheryl Ouimet; her sons, John Jeffrey Landy and Michael Timothy Landy; her grandchildren, Michael, Katelyn, Ryan, Taryn, Emmett, and Annalise; and her great-granddaughter, Roos.
The family would like to thank Manor Lake in Ellijay, Georgia, for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.
