Arthur Stephen Healey

On Thursday, September 1, 2022, Arthur Stephen Healey, loving husband of 66 years, father of four and life-long educator, passed away at the age of 94. Art was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 5, 1928 to Edward and Mae Healey. He spent his formative years in the Boston area where he attended Boston College preparatory school and later earned his Bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College and a Masters’ degree in English Education from Barry University in Miami. He married the love of his life, Margaret Orra Mager in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1955 where they raised their family. Art worked in the Broward County school system for 33 years and retired after serving as Principal of Coral Springs Middle School from 1975 to 1988.

Art was a consummate intellectual and devoted life-long Catholic, who studied Greek and Latin and had been trained in the classics. His true passion was engaging and connecting with other people, most notably his own children who he supported in their unique and varied interests. After retirement, Art served as an Intern Supervisor for Florida Atlantic University’s College of Education and as a court appointed guardian ad litem where, for more than a decade, he was a passionate advocate for abused and neglected children in the Broward County courts system.

Art is predeceased by his brother Edward Healey of Bloomfield, NJ and his sister Sr. Doris Healey of the Sister’s of Charity Catholic Order, in Convent Station, NJ. He is survived by his wife Orra and his four children Stephen, Mary Suzzan, David and Christopher and their respective families including seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on September 23rd at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Coral Springs, Florida.
