She was born in Houston, Texas on July 18,1932 to Ray and Pearl (Hardin) Jacobson. Jeanette grew up mainly in the Houston area and attended Elliot Elementary, Edison Junior High, and Stephen F. Austin High School, graduating in 1950. Her brother Gilbert was born in 1940 after the loss of two infant siblings. She learned about Jesus as a child and accepted Him into her heart at a young age.
Jeanette met the love of her life, Richard Harris (Dick) Abrahams, on a blind date in 1951, shortly before his military duties took him overseas. She was working at Faith Memorial Baptist Church as a secretary while awaiting Dick’s return from the Korean War, where he served his country in the U.S. Army for approximately 2 years. She wrote many letters of encouragement to him while he was overseas. They were married on July 2,1954 at Faith Memorial Baptist in Houston.
Dick and Jeanette welcomed their only child, Karen Kay, in 1957, and Jeanette enjoyed her time as a stay-at-home mom. Through the years she served the Lord by singing in the choir at Freeway Manor Baptist Church in Houston and blessed many 2nd Grade children as a Sunday School teacher at Freeway Manor and First Baptist Church of Pasadena. Jeanette was a gracious host to many friends and family, including their Friday Night dinner crew who got together for weekly dinners for many years. Her sewing talents provided many clothing items for her family. After Dick retired in 1986, they began to travel the world visiting Europe, Alaska, Canada, and many beautiful areas in the United States.
Jeanette and Dick remained in the Houston area for several decades until 2014 when they moved to College Station to be near Karen and her family. Moving near family allowed them to enjoy attending many musical theatre productions to watch their granddaughters perform, seeing their grandson excel at his role as a father, and watching their great-grandson grow into a fine young man.
Jeanette is survived by her loving husband, Richard, who stood faithfully by her side for 70 years. She is also survived by her daughter, Karen Kullman, of College Station and her husband, Paul; her brother, Gilbert Jacobson, of Montgomery, Texas; her grandchildren, Amanda Joy Kullman, Jared Christian Kullman, and Kelsie Alayna Kullman, all of College Station; her great-grandson, Brody Michael Kullman, of College Station; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close friends and family.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Pearl Jacobson; her stepfather Charlie Schiesser; and her infant siblings: Adrian and Nancylee.
A memorial service for Jeanette will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 11:00 am at Christ’s Way Baptist Church (3885 Copperfield Dr. Bryan, Texas 77802) with Rev. Paul Kullman officiating.
The service will be followed by a visitation meal in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
The family would like to thank Lynn Davis and Autumn Varvel, as well as the whole team of hospice workers with Amedisys Hospice. Your professional care during Jeanette’s final days was a blessing to us all. Also, we wish to thank her granddaughter Mandy for the loving care she provided to her grandma for the past year and a half. Her love showed through in the great care she provided.
Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.
