Ruben Anthony Montenegro

Ruben known to many as “Papi” passed away at the age of 74 on October 29th, 2025. he was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and spent many years in Baton Rouge Louisiana before making his home in Katy, Texas. Where he lived for the past 25 years.

Ruben worked as a furrier for most of his life, beginning his career at Goudchaux’s in Baton Rouge and continuing in Houston with Sakowitz furs. He was a natural salesman—we often joked that he could sell a fur to an animal rights activist—and he truly loved what he did.

Beyond his work Ruben was a comedian at heart, the life of every party, full of energy, sharp wit and endless laughter. He loved rock music, going to concerts, and most of all spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Consuelo Montenegro, and his beloved wife, Arelis Montenegro. He is survived by his three children, Maria, Ruben, and Jonathon, his daughter-in-law, Nayeska and his grandchildren, Bryant, Mia, Tyler, Lyudmila, Antonella, and Luciana.

A celebration of life will be held at Brookside Funeral Home—Cypress Creek 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095 on Saturday November 8, 2025 at 3:00pm.
