
Robert Jahn passed away peacefully, in Richmond, TX, at the age of 90, on July 5, 2024. He was born in Chattanooga TN, to Erich Walter and Bertha Emma Jahn. He grew up in Chattanooga, developed a love for drama and electronics during his Junior High and High School Years. He was given major parts in several plays. He attended several private high schools, including one year away from home at Concordia Lutheran High School in Seward NE. He graduated from Chattanooga HS in 1952. Bob attended the University of Chattanooga for one year, then enlisted in the US Army , serving three years in the Army Security Agency, Intelligence Division. During this time, he was in the Korean War for 18 months, then completed his advanced training in Japan. After returning home, he spent one more semester at the University of Chattanooga, then got married, and enlisted in the US Air Force. His USAF stations included March AFB in Riverside CA, and Fort Meade, MD, where he did Advanced Training for the National Security Agency. His final USAF assignment was a one year tour in Trabzon, Turkey. Bob’s first 3 children, one son and two daughters, were born during his active duty years in the USAF. He worked for the next 6 years as a Civilian NSA employee. In December 1979, Bob moved to Houston TX. He married Sue Jahn in August 1987, Sue followed Bob to heaven on July 10, 2024, five days after his sudden death. Bob loved to travel, camp, read, do repair projects at the house, and take part in community volunteer groups and activities He was an active member of Joy Lutheran Church, which he joined in 1999. He was very happy, as was Sue, when they purchased a house close to the church in 2006, moving to Richmond from Alief. This gave them the opportunity to spend more time at the church during the week, helping in many different volunteer roles. More than anything else, Bob was a loving, supportive husband to Sue. He was by her side, and tended to all of her needs for the entire 37 year marriage. Sue’s family will always remember him and love him for being such a wonderful husband. We know that Sue and Bob are now together.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Erich and Bertha Jahn, his sister, Marjorie Timmel, and her husband, Fred Timmel, and nephew, Dan Timmel. He was survived by his wife, Sue Jahn, for 5 days. He is survived by his sister, Lois Hamm, 3 children: Erich Jahn, Ann Marie Jahn, Jacqueline Jahn, and 6 step children: Chelyncia Schoonmaker and Wesley Brewer, Scott Carleton, Brett Carleton, Gregg Carleton, and Jane Carleton. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, and nephews: Paul, Art, Joel and Sean.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 11 A.M. at Joy Lutheran Church; 717 FM 359, Richmond TX 77406; This will be a joint service, as we will also be celebrating the life of Robert’s beloved wife, Sue Jahn, who died 5 days after him.
