She was born January 27, 1954 in Waco, Texas to Alfred “Speedy” Walker and Margaret “Tince” Lewallen Walker. Linda was best friends with Susan Ratliff (deceased) and Linda Todd who came to visit her during her last days. She attended Midway High School in Waco but did not graduate because Baylor University waived her need to graduate High School after excelling in college summer courses following her junior year at Midway. Linda received a Bachelor of Accounting from Baylor University, Master of Business Administration from St. Edward’s University in Austin. She went on to work for the Texas State Comptroller and excelled as an auditor’s trainer.
In her spare time, Linda loved spending time with her family and was a shameless promoter of Baylor University. She resided in Waco growing up, then moved to Austin to work for the Public Controller’s Office and then moved with her husband to Richmond, Texas. She loved watching the Houston Texans, the Houston Oilers, and the Houston Astros, but always loved her Baylor Bears above all others. She was a member and treasurer of the Eighth Church of Christ, Christian Scientist, Houston, Texas where she loved working on her Bible translations. She also attended St. John’s UMC in Richmond, Texas.
Linda was a Christmas enthusiast, boasting eight Christmas trees at home, and four themed trees. Linda loved music. As a teenager, she worked at a record shop and met her husband Owen at a Rusty Wier concert.
Linda is survived by her husband, Owen Ellington of Richmond, Texas, her daughters Summer Elizabeth Ellington of Richmond, Texas, and Susan Elise Ellington of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Miller, a niece, Ashley Miller Boto, and her beloved grand dog, Tucker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Alfred “Speedy” Walker and Margaret “Tince” Lewallen Walker, her grandparents, Henry Lewallen and Mary Agnes Lewallen, a brother, Ralph Walker, a nephew, Jay Miller, and her two precious dogs, Buddy and Bitsey.
A Memorial Service will be held on December 6, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Richmond, Texas with Pastor Jeff Gantz officiating. The family suggests donations in Linda’s name to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation at www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org
A special thank you goes to her long-time pharmacist/caregiver Terrance Houston and home healthcare nurse Nosa Aig, and the hundreds of doctors, nurses and aides at St. Luke’s Houston and Sugar Land, Memorial Hospital Sugar Land and Kindred Hospital in Sugar Land.
If I Needed You
By Towns Van Zant
If I needed you, would you come to me?
Would you come to me and ease my pain?
If you needed me, I would come to you
I'd swim the seas for to ease your pain
Well, in the night forlorn, oh, the morning's born
And the morning shines with the lights of love
And you will miss sunrise if you close your eyes
And that would break my heart in two
The lady's with me now since I showed her how
To lay her lily hand in mine
Loop and Lil agree, she's a sight to see
A treasure for the poor to find
Well, if I needed you, would you come to me?
Would you come to me and ease my pain?
If you needed me, I would come to you
I would swim the seas for to ease your pain
