John Eugene King

He was born October 7, 1941, in Cambridge, MA to John and Gilda King. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin in 1959. Upon graduation John enlisted in the Army and served stateside in missile silos then was sent to Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He loved telling colorful stories about his time in Germany. He served from July 1959 through March 1962.

John met Jennifer Crocker in Phoenix, AZ June of 1978 (it was a whirlwind romance). A job opportunity relocated them to Lake Havasu City, AZ where they married under the London Bridge on February 17, 1979. On March 17, 1980, a son, Derek John, was born. In 1982 a job opportunity in San Diego, CA relocated the family where they lived until 2001. During this time John worked in telecommunications and eventually started his own company, King Communications. John and Jennifer operated until 2001 when they sold the business and home, bought a motorhome and traveled the country until they settled in Bryan, TX in 2009.

John enjoyed his woodshop, building a variety of items including much of the furniture in their home. He also enjoyed preparing his favorite food, pasta, and feeding his friends and family. He was also an avid reader. John loved coaching, including baseball, basketball and soccer. Many of his players have reached out to the family. John was a loving husband and father, who was loved by many.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jennifer, his daughter Nicole LaCour and her husband Jacque and his son Derek King and fiancée, Amanda Marshall. His grandchildren Mason & Ethan LaCour, Charlee Lynn Marshall, Jaxon John King, Mavrick Brady King and Kenna Rose King. John is also survived by his sister Cynthia Mink and her daughter Amy Davis and several cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brother Wayne King, nephew John Baldero and several cousins.

A future service will be held. The family requests no flowers, donations to John’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army are welcome.
