James was born on January 21, 1952, in DeKalb, Texas, the only child of Augustus and Merdie Reed. He moved to Jefferson, Texas as a child and attended school there. In 1977 he began a more than 20-year career with the United State Navy.
James is survived by his only child, daughter, Stephanie ‘Nicole’ Reed and 3 granddaughters - Jasmine Reed, Undrea Hobson (Jordan) and LaTrenda Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of over 2 decades, Elodean Reed.
His daughter and granddaughters remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, and loving man who encouraged them to pursue their goals and live life to the fullest.
James was passionate about his family, the NFL Raiders, music and avidly indulged in collecting swords & daggers. He was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved to laugh. James will be greatly missed by all who encountered his beautiful spirit. His legacy will live on through all that loved him.
