

Jackie Lynn Chaneyworth Black (63) passed from this life on Monday, December 4, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, heart disease and kidney failure. She was born on May 1, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. Jackie attended Edgewood Elementary School, Landrum Jr. High, where she learned to play the clarinet, and Spring Branch High School in Houston, graduating in 1973. She also attended Sam Houston State College in Huntsville, Texas for two years. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Doyle E. (“Eddie”) Black, Jr.; daughter Brandie Black; son Blaze Black; mother Estella Chaneyworth; sister Sandra (“Sandy”) Janda and husband Richard (“Dick”) Janda. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack V. Chaneyworth. She leaves behind many good friends and lots of family. In 1974, Jackie joined her mother and cousin as a member of the Joseph Collins Rebekah Lodge #7 in Houston, Texas and they attended many events together. Jackie met Eddie in Junior High band class. They had several classes together throughout their school years and finally started dating after graduation. They were married on May 23, 1981 in Houston and were blessed with two children. Jackie was a Girl Scout through and through. She grew up in the Scouts, and became a leader for many years, including while her daughter was in the Girl Scouts. She loved to cook, go camping and sell cookies. Jackie enjoyed planning events, trips, and get-togethers. She and her husband learned to scuba dive and made many dives with friends until her health would not allow. Jackie enjoyed going to Bible Study every week with her friends. She loved playing games, especially Mahjong, at the Community Center. Jackie loved life….and cared about people. She never met a stranger. She kept in touch with several of her high school friends and made many new friends through the years. If you were lucky enough to meet Jackie and become her friend, you were a friend for life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be a celebration of Jackie’s life on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11:00am at Living Word Church, 16607 Clay Road, Houston, TX 77084. The final resting place for Jackie’s ashes will be on a reef near Key West, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jackie’s name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, American Heart Association or the American Kidney Fund.
