“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
— Greek Proverb.
One of his greatest personal achievements was to look with pride on the several dozen “bucket oaks” he grew from acorns, gathered from the Hempstead Courthouse, and then gifted and planted all over the Houston area some 40 years ago. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all those who would like to honor his memory donate in his name to www.treesforhouston.org to keep his sweet intention growing.
