Adrain W. McHenry, 78 of Montgomery, Texas, went valiantly home on October 4, 2023 after a long and courageous battle against cancer and heart disease. Born in Delhi, Louisiana on January 11, 1945 to W.L. and Ora McHenry, he was one of eight children. He made his home in Montgomery after semi-retirement, with extended stints in Baytown, Texas, Augusta, Georgia, and Cleveland, Ohio over his storied 78 years.
Adrain is preceded in death by his father W.L., mother Ora, sister Cheryol, and brothers Lawrence and Yonne. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Cindy McHenry, daughter Ashleigh McHenry, and granddaughter, Charlie Alwood. In his extended family, he leaves behind sisters Myra, Brenda, Linda, and Sharon, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and life-long friends too plentiful to list.
Born a sharecropper, he and his family picked cotton until they moved to Texas in 1956. In August of 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army where he selflessly served our country in the Vietnam War as a member of the Second Field Force. When he was fortunate enough to return home, he played music with his band “Eli”, and soon began his career in the soft drink industry. At Pepsi-Cola in Pasadena, he met his wife, Cindy, with whom he moved to Augusta, where they had their daughter Ashleigh and soon moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he was the Director of Sales and Marketing for Coca-Cola Bottling. In time, he began his own flourishing business in the paper and packaging industry. In his free time, you would find him on the golf course, watching football or baseball, or enjoying old Westerns.
Never without a story or laugh, Adrain’s jokes, generosity, and retelling of his intriguing life will not be soon forgotten, and will bring his family and friends comfort for years to come.
