Walter Alonzo Frazier

Walter A. Frazier, 88, was born in Hannibal, MO, in an all Black town, Douglasville, in 1932 to Vincent Frazier and Madie nee Nearing. He attended Douglas High School and enlisted into the Air Force where he became a technical sergeant (tsgt), was a radio operator, earned his high school diploma, and developed a love of photography and handball. After 20 years, Walter retired from the Air Force and began his career at Exide Battery until starting his own company, All-American Industrial Battery Company in Kansas City, KS, which he owned and operated until 1995. Walter met Linda nee Peterson at Jamison Temple CME Church in Kansas City, MO and they married soon after on April 22, 1972. They joined Bethel AME church, where they raised their family for over 20 years. Walter was a part of the adult Sunday School class, the Usher Board and the photography/videography team. He helped found the mentoring program at Bethel called Save Our Sons (S.O.S.) providing wisdom, life skills and love to countless young men. Walter was also very active with the Prince Hall Masons in Kansas City for many years.

The family moved to Jacksonville, FL, and joined Saint Stephen’s AME Church, where Walter joined the audio/visual team, drove for the childcare and learning center, and was a member of the Sons of Allen for 20 years. Whether on the road or at his home church, Walter documented the life of AME churches, capturing weekly services and life-cycle events making these pictures and videos available at little to no cost.

Walter was an outstanding handball player who others loved to spar with. He travelled across the US playing in tournaments. A singles and partners champion, he represented the Missouri Handball Association with pride. Walter played vigorously until he was 82 years old.

Walter was a loving, generous and amazing husband, father, uncle and friend. His sweet, calm presence put folks at ease and made every place he went better. Walter always looked out for folks, ensuring they had everything they needed. He was known to pull over on the highway to help strangers in need, opening his heart and his wallet no matter who it was, or why they asked. His tenacity, generous spirit, quick wit and award winning smile will be missed tremendously.

He was preceded in death by his parents:Vincent Frazier and Madie Nearing; brothers:Vincent Frazier, Joe Frazier, John Frazier, Harry Frazier and James Frazier; sisters:Mary Payne, Margaret Parks and Mable Johnson.

Walt is remembered with love by his loving wife:Linda Frazier; daughter:Lana Elizabeth Brijlall (Kumar) Cambridge, Canada; sons:Walter Anthony Frazier, Philadelphia, PA; Donald Frazier, Philadelphia, PA; Walter Alonzo Frazier II, Memphis, TN; and Dr. Koach Baruch Frazier (LaJuana), Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren:Kristina Brijlall (Roopnarine Baldeo), Cambridge, Canada; Marilyn Allers (Carlos) Bermuda; Asha Brijlall (Terrence Yhap), Cambridge, Canada; Anuradha Brijlall (Joseph Amaral), Cambridge, Canada; Davendra Brijlall, Cambridge, Canada; Nafeesah Knoble, Miami, FL; Sidney Cain-Frazier, Abington, PA; Dominique Frazier, Philadelphia, PA; Devonne Frazier, Kansas City, MO; and Asha Ballard, Saint Louis, MO; great grandchildren:Laylah Baldeo, Aryana Baldeo, Marcus Allers, Olivia Allers, Desiree Yhap, Terrence Yhap and one on the way; sister:Addie Beckmon, Norfolk, VA; brother:George Frazier, Chicago, IL; sister in laws:Andora, Gwen (Homer), Mandella (Johnny), Iris (Eugene), and Lora (Tony); best friend:Sam McCormick; godchildren:Lance Ebron, Joritta Dotson, Kevin Rose and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
