Gilmer White Jr.

Gilmer White, Jr., known by all as Gil, passed away on November 16, 2023 at the age of 93. At the time of his death, he was a resident at the Clyde E. Lassen Veterans Nursing Home in St. Augustine, Florida. He was born on September 16, 1930 to Gilmer White, Sr. and Dorothy Beery White in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was a cradle Episcopalian and proud graduate of the University of the South (Sewanee), class of 1953.

He served in the United States Army and was in insurance marketing and sales for his entire professional career. After he retired in 1995, he dedicated his time to his boat, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and most importantly his family. He was an avid runner and was involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a writer and published author of three novels. He was working on a fourth novel at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Jones White, son Jason M. White, daughters Dawn Lynch & Noel Church, sister Mary Catherine Gregory, grandchildren, several nieces, and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, and a grandson.

His celebration of life will be held at King of Peace Episcopal Church, 6230 Laurel Island Parkway, Kingsland, Georgia on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to King of Peace Episcopal Church, which he loved dearly.
