Kathy spent most of her young life in Dallas/Richardson, Texas. She graduated from Richardson High School and attended Richland Community College. Kathy married Arthur John Hyndford Carmichael on May 13, 1978.
Over the years, John’s work took them to San Antonio, Texas, Overland Park, Kansas, Mobile, Alabama but for the last 30+ years they lived in the Tampa Bay area in Florida. In 2016 Kathy and her husband retired to a community on the water with amazing sunset views. Kathy was an avid reader and loved literature. Her favorite activity was curling up with a new book. She loved playing cards and was the one to beat. She was a cat lover and a haven for any strays, maybe even a possum or two!
Kathy was an award-winning and USA Today bestselling author that wrote humorous mysteries, women’s fiction and sweet/clean romance. Her novel Hot Flash was named by the American Library Association’s Booklist as one of the 101 Top Romances of the Last 10 years. Hot Flash and her first mystery novel, Diary of a Confessions Queen, both received starred reviews from Booklist.
In addition to her novels, she wrote novellas and short stories. She wrote a bi-monthly column on the business of writing for a national writing trade magazine and was a contest judge for Writers Digest. She was an active member of the Mystery Writers of America and Novelists Inc. She did workshops and speaking engagements to inspire new writers.
Kathy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her two sons. It made her heart full when she was able to spend time with them and loved that they lived nearby. She was the second oldest of a large brood of children and she made each and every one of us feel loved.
She is survived by her husband John Carmichael. Son Andrew and spouse Katie Carmichael, their children Evelyn and Caleb, son Ian Carmichael and fiancé Brittany Galbraith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert A. Lynch, mother Charlotte L. Nohr, stepfather Leonard M. Nohr and sister Paula K. Carmichael.
