

Dedicated to public service throughout his life, Don joined the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department in June 1963 and faithfully served for 35 years before retiring in June 1998. He also served as a police officer with the River Vale Police Department from 1964 to 1970.
Don's career in public works began with the Westwood Department of Public Works, where he served as Foreman. In 1987, he became Superintendent of the Township of Washington Department of Public Works, a position he held until his retirement in 1997.
A respected leader in the fire service, Don served as Chief of the Westwood Fire Department in 1983 and again in 1989 and 1990. He was President of the NJ & NY Volunteer Fireman's Association in 1997 and 1998 and was a life member of the NJ State Volunteer Fireman's Association. He also served as President of the Bergen County Public Works Association from 1990 to 1992.
Following his retirement, Don and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Las Vegas, where he enthusiastically pursued his passions for golf and bowling. He competed successfully in numerous tournaments and enjoyed many years of friendship and camaraderie through both sports.
When Cheryl retired in 2015, the couple relocated to New Port Richey, where they enjoyed the Florida lifestyle and spent many happy hours on the golf course.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and George Fournier; his brothers, Robert and Kenneth Fournier; and his son, Gary Fournier.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; his son, James, of Palm Bay; his granddaughter, Shelley; his great-granddaughter, Madison; his daughter, Cheryl Sefranek, and her husband, Wolfgang, of Freehold, NJ; and his grandchildren, Payton and Hunter.
Don will be remembered for his years of dedicated service, his leadership, his love of golf and bowling, and the many friendships he built throughout his life. To his friends from the Westwood Fire Department, fellow fire departments, police departments, public works colleagues, the bowling and golf communities and many great friends along the way, Don would simply say: thank you for being a part of his life.
