Valasta Annie Standridge, known to many as simply “Nanny”, died on November 6, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born in Texas and lived in the state until her death. She was married twice, her first husband died in October 1975 and her second passed in July 1993.
She was born in Deanville, Texas and during her life, resided in Waco, Houston, Livingston and Rockdale, Texas as well as Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Nanny was born in Deanville, Texas on December 4th, 1927. Her parents were Kristine and Emil Prazak. She had 7 siblings, 6 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her brother and 2 sisters. Her parents were share croppers, and she grew up on a central Texas farm. Although she attended school and graduated from high school, her primary responsibilities upon coming home from school was to help her parents and siblings do the farm work necessary to sustain the family needs.
She is survived by her only child, Kenneth Domann, currently residing in St Charles, IL. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Although she only gave birth to one child, she was a Mother to many, hence why everyone she met called her Nanny. She was a loving and nurturing soul, who never turned any loved one away when they were in need. She was always more concerned about the needs of others than her own.
Her hobbies included crocheting, playing dominos and watching her beloved westerns on TV. She was a big fan of Gunsmoke. She enjoyed walking, and in her younger years would always have a garden. Her crocheting included making blankets for Project Linus that distributed them to children in hospitals.
She had a sense of humor and loved to talk. She was also intolerant of disrespectful and insensitive people. Her favorite form of attention was a hug, a kiss and some conversation. She loved to cook and was always making special treats for her family. When they were old enough, she would encourage her grandkids and later her great grandkids to help her prepare the cakes, cookies and kolaches.
A service was held at 11 am on January 5, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dime Box, TX. An interment service will then be held at the Hranice Cemetery where her ashes will be distributed over the grave of her Mother and Father. A family dinner will follow that service.
