Patricia Annis Duckwall Selwood Age 83, died peacefully on July 19, 2024 in Parker, Colorado. She was a graduate of National Cathedral School and went on to get a Bachelor of Arts degree from Skidmore College. She also attended Case Western Reserve many years later and earned a certificate in non-profit management.
She married Samuel F. Selwood in 1961. They had one daughter and they spent more than 50 years together. They enjoyed camping, boating, sitting on their decks in Norton, Ohio or on Seneca lake and just being together.
Pat spent her entire life serving others and working to make a difference in the world. She cared greatly about her church and her faith. She was also relentless on the issues of justice, peace, equality and the state of our environment. She worked tirelessly to make life just a bit better for all around her and she never hesitated to share her time and talents. She loved a good meeting and coming away with a to-do list that she could work on. She wants you to know that “she tried! ” (Which is a huge understatement!) She worked on numerous committees at her local church as well as at the Diocesan level. This was true in Ohio as well as New York. Pat taught English to middle school students for a few years. She then worked for Community Action in Wooster Ohio, the Mental Health Board in Akron, Ohio, the census in Penn Yan, New York and at the Board of Elections in Penn Yan, New York. She worked to support the Friends of the Penn Yan library and was a member of the southern tier library board. She read prolifically and was often teased about having read every book in the library.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Michele Shaar and son in law, Tom Shaar, her grandsons Hasan Shaar and Mark Shaar, their wives Rorey Shaar and Elisha Provencio and great granddaughter Kaisley Mae Shaar A Memorial service and a Celebration of Pat will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal church in Penn Yan, NY on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00am followed by a reception in the undercroft.
