Patricia A. Hughes (Patty) passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on August 15, 2022 in Denver, Colorado. Patty was born in Chicago, IL July 18, 1952 as the second child of six children. The Hughes family grew up in Downers Grove, IL and Patty attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Montini High School and continued her education at SIU-Edwardsville, as an art major. She was an extremely talented potter and sketch artist. She remained in Edwardsville after college and worked in restaurant service and management. Over the 30+ years in Edwardsville, her friends there became an extended family.
In 2011 she moved to Denver, where her brother and family reside. She instantly fell in love with the mountains and went on road trips whenever possible. She found more out of the way places and met many people on her adventures. Patty was very sociable and anybody who met her left as a friend. In her 11 years in Denver, she made many close friends.
Patty was a huge baseball fan, both of the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. She continued to follow both teams when she lived in Denver.
Although Patty never had her own children, her kids were her nieces and nephews. She loved to babysit them, take them to the park and spend quality time with them. She will be remembered as having an infectious laugh, a big heart and was sentimental to a fault.
Patty is survived by siblings Jim Hughes (Sharon), Anne Baki (Joe), Tom Hughes (Leann), Dave Hughes (Fran) and Chris Calhoun (Kris). Nieces and nephews Phil (Erica), Greg (Danielle), Matt (Elena), Lizzie (Brad), Katie, Becky (Brad), Ryan and Jeannie, and 3 new great nieces and nephews Teddy, Rowyn and Corinne. She was preceded in death by both parents, Jim and Jeannie Hughes and niece Jessie Calhoun.
A celebration of Patty’s life will be held in the Chicago area later this year. To honor Patty’s memory, donations can be made to The Histiocytosis Association (in memory of her niece Jessie) at give.histio.org
