

James Everett Cowell, 78 years old passed in his sleep early morning on November 6 at Littleton Advent hospital in Colorado. He was born in Nashville Tennessee to Hubert Harrison and Edna Mae Cowell. He attended Cohn High School in Nashville where he played varsity football, was a member of the debate team, and participated in student government.
After high school he attended the University of Tennessee, before joining the navy. In the Navy he proudly served on the USS Hornet. While serving his country he was part of the recovery missions for Apollo 11 and 12. After serving four years in the Navy he moved to San Diego, where he met his loving wife of fifty-two years, Judith Rae Cowell. They moved to Dallas where he finished his degree in business and obtained his master’s degree in finance. After obtaining his degree he worked for First National Bank of Dallas and played rugby for the Dallas Harlequins rugby club. They moved to Denver Colorado where he worked for Western Union money orders. While working for Western Union he wrote and developed nine successful patents.
After he retired from Western Union, he passionately pursued his hobbies, of fly fishing, camping and traveling. He also spent much of his time volunteering with trout unlimited and Healing Waters, where he taught his fellow veterans how to tie flies and make fly rods. He also planned many fundraises and fishing trips as well. His infectious humor and love for life will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

James is survived by his wife Judith Rae Cowell, brother Kenneth Cowell and his sister Cindy Dixon, her husband Roger Dixon, and his two sons Jeffery Kenneth and Jason Everett Cowell and his 2 Nieces and 3 grand nephews.
