Obituary of Cheryl R Griffith
Cheryl (Cherie) Ruth Griffith 79, of Denver passed away in her home on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, after courageously battling cancer. She is survived by her adoring family – her husband, Joseph E Griffith, children M. Scott Carhart (Helen Flaster) of San Diego and Andrea Velle (Robert) of Richmond, VA, grandchildren Sean, Kevin, Mikaela, Katherine, and Michael, her sister Mary Elghandour, many nieces, nephews and cousins – and a multitude of dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth S. McDermott and Stephen T. McDermott, Sr and her brother, Stephen T. McDermott and her ex-husband Forrest F Carhart, III. Cherie was a graduate of South High School, and she attended the University of Denver. During multiple coast-to-coast moves she worked her way up from a secretary in modest law offices to the administrative assistant for Wall-Street executives. Retirement brought her back to Denver where she volunteered with the South High School Alumni Association and the University of Denver’s University Library Association. Cherie was an avid reader and traveler as well as a puzzle master with a passion for word play and a wicked sense of humor. Smart, inquisitive, and adventurous, Cherie picked up many skills and hobbies throughout her life including crocheting, furniture refinishing and upholstering, gardening, sewing, jewelry making, genealogy, quilting, and photography. She loved music and was always ready with a song. A devoted and loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend, Cherie will be sorely missed. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. Donations in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society , the University Library Association, or a charity of your choice.
