

Today, we sadly announce the passing of Thomas F. Madison on October 20, 2025 at St. Mark Village in Palm Harbor, FL. He was a distinguished World War II veteran that served his country proudly and with unwavering honor. Born on December 29, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas’ journey of military service began on December 14, 1942 at the age of 17 when he raised his right hand to serve in the U.S. Navy.
After rising to the rank of Machinist Mate 2nd Class, Thomas received his Honorable Discharge in April 1946 and returned home where Thomas and Elizabeth were married on August 31, 1946. In the years that followed, they had 4 children. He was always known to be a kind man as well as a loving husband/father that never made a promise he couldn’t keep and raised his family in the Catholic faith.
In the year after World War II, Thomas enlisted in the state plumbing apprenticeship program and graduated in 1953. Some of the many commercial plumbing projects Thomas worked on were St. Lawrence Seaway Locks, Millstone Power Station 1,2, and 3 to help modernize the country and to move forward in the years after the war. He was a proud member of the Connecticut Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 305 and The National Plumbers and Pipefitters Union up until his retirement in the mid 1980’s. For retirement, Thomas and Elizabeth moved to Florida where they became avid square/line dancers, enjoyed camping and traveling the country. As their children grew up and became parents themselves, Thomas and Elizabeth enjoyed becoming grandparents/ great grandparents and continued to live retirement to their fullest until Elizabeth passed away on October 5, 2018. He is survived by his children (and their spouses); Thomas F. Madison Jr (Joanne Millovitsch), Eugene Madison (Ida Madison), Deborah Martakis (the late Alex Martakis), and Diane Smith (Jeff Smith) as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church in Palm Harbor, FL for many years.
We celebrated Thomas F. Madison on December 29, 2024 on his 100th birthday with family and friends. Today, we honor the man that answered the call to serve his country in the Pacific Theatre to return to a humble civilian life filled with a loving family and adventure. Thomas exemplifies the unwavering strength and patriotic spirit of the Greatest Generation.
A Military ceremony and graveside service will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
