Sol was born July 25, 1944 to Zigmund and Dora Gumpricht in Tajikistan. He immigrated to America as a young boy and grew up in Baltimore, MD.
Remembered for his larger-than-life character, his warm spirit, and razor sharp mind, Sol lived a full and vibrant life. Sol’s friendly, collegial personality earned him friends wherever he went, whether he was engaging in a competitive game of chess or showcasing his unique storytelling and writing abilities (including his two short stories published as “Stumblebum and Streets of Baltimore”). One of his greatest passions was 1960s jazz. He deeply cherished the music and often shared fond memories of the privilege he had to meet and know many of the jazz idiom’s legendary greats.
Sol is survived by his loving children, Eric and Maraya, his grandson Ethan, his sister Rita, and her two children, Dana and Jeffrey.
