Born and raised in Alma, Michigan, Sherry graduated from Michigan State University in 1968. In 1972, she moved to Florida, where she began a lifelong career as a dedicated Pinellas County School teacher. For more than 30 years, she devoted herself to teaching, with a special passion for supporting and guiding special education students. She deeply valued the importance of education and inspired both her students and family with her strong belief in educational pursuits.
Family was the center of Sherry’s life, and there was nothing she would not do for them. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Skorupa; her children, Scott Skorupa and Stephanie (Skorupa) Bombei; her grandchildren, Brandon Bombei, Morgan Bombei, Chase Skorupa, and Chloe Skorupa; and her brother, Dennis Lippert, and sisters-in-law, Anastacia Lippert and Christine Anderson. She also leaves behind her nieces Shea (Lippert) Craft and Kailani Lippert, along with many extended family members, friends, and former students who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Shirley Lippert.
Sherry had an adventurous spirit and a deep love of travel, having visited all seven continents. Never one to shy away from new experiences, she went skydiving at 60 and bravely took the polar plunge off Antarctica at 72. Throughout her life, she loved going to Disney World and Universal Studios with her grandchildren, riding roller coasters with them until the parks closed. She was also a devoted sports fan and a proud season ticket holder for both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning. One of her fondest memories was attending Super Bowl XXXVII in San Diego, where she cheered the Buccaneers on to their very first championship win.
She also found great peace in nature, and her ashes will be spread at Yosemite National Park, a place of beauty and serenity that reflected her adventurous and loving soul.
She will be remembered for her warm smile, her devotion to family, her love of teaching, and her sense of wonder for the world around her.
