Roland Wilson Mack

Roland had a lifelong love of sports, especially football, and enjoyed listening to the Michigan State Spartan Marching Band of which he was a member during his college years. He played the clarinet and then the bass drum so we could always find him on the field. Some highlights of his time in the band were getting to go to the Rose Bowl and marching in Lyndon Johnson's inaugural parade. His career was in television starting in a small station in Traverse City, MI. He was about to go to a big station in Cincinnati, when Uncle Sam sent him a letter requesting his presence in the US Army. Fortunately after training he was sent to Seoul, Korea instead of Viet Nam. While there he worked at AFKN the television

station for the area. He was able to direct news and put entertainers on the air, including Bob Hope and Gypsy Rose Lee. After his Army years, he worked in television for markets in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Sacramento, Fort Wayne, Charleston, Columbus (Georgia)and finally Louisville, KY. Yes, we moved a lot! At different stations, he was director, producer, and program manager. Upon retirement, we moved to Clearwater, FL. He was able to televise church services for St. Paul Methodist, before we became members of Church of the Ascension, Clearwater.

Roland was an honorable and devoted Christian man who lived his life with kindness, dependability, and compassion. Roland loved his family deeply and was always willing to put the needs of others before his own. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, steadfast character, and the love he shared with those around him.

Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Caryl Mack, his son Paul Mack (DeNae), his daughter Cynthia Rickert, his six grandchildren, Britney Beeler (Brenton), Troy Mack, Penelope O'steen (Jerrod), Violet Sears, Naray Lansing, and Maxwell Lansing and five great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, at 11:00 am. at the Episcopal Church of Ascension, 701 Orange Avenue, Clearwater, Florida 33756.
