Paul Robert Messenger, age 93, passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of patience, loyalty, patriotism, and deep love of country, along with a life defined by quiet strength and devotion to family.
Born March 17, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed in Germany during the Korean War—service that reflected his lifelong patriotism and unwavering respect for those who serve. Following his time in the military, Paul was employed at General Electric as an electrical engineer for 32 years until his retirement in 1992.
In 1960, Paul and his beloved wife Joan moved to Clearwater, Florida, bringing with them their two young children and building a life grounded in integrity, hard work, and loyalty to family. Known for his patience and steady guidance, Paul enjoyed baseball, carpentry, and woodworking, and was an avid gun enthusiast who took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren firearm safety and responsible marksmanship. He also had a lifelong love for animals, especially his cherished “grand dogs,” who brought him great joy.
Paul was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Joan, the love of his life and constant partner. He is survived by his three daughters: Carol McKisson (Jack), Cheryl Messenger, and Diane Bowers (Chris); grandchildren John McKisson(Angie), Scott McKisson, and Lina Bowers; and great-grandchildren Bishop McKisson James and Olivia McKisson.
Paul will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida, a fitting resting place for a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud American veteran. His Committal will take place at Bay Pines on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 2:30pm.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
