

Melvin Edward Hill Sr., age 80, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022. Mel was born October 16, 1941 in East Chicago, In to the late Melvin E. and Gertrude (Navarre) Hill. He married Victoria Japkowski on December 10, 1960. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, IN.
Mel joined the United States Navy on August 15, 1960. After the Navy, Mel became an Electrician working as Chief Inspector for the City of St Petersburg in 1982 until his retirement in 2007. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and also a member of American Legion Post 104 Pinellas Park, Fl. Mel enjoyed playing bass with the Soggy Bottom Bluegrass group and the Lost River Band when they won the Florida Bluegrass Championship in 1986. He also enjoyed boating, camping, and spending time with his family. He was a faithful Lutheran.
Mel is survived by his wife of 61 years; Vickie, Daughter; Kristine Romahn-Hill of Texas, Son; Michael Todd (Nancy) Hill of Florida, grandchildren; Werner (Lindsey), Hannah, great granddaughter; Taylor. He is also survived by a sister; Nancy Chorba, niece; Missy, sister; Karen Van Hoof, brother; David Fleischmann, and favorite hairstylist for 27 years; Sue. He was preceded in death by his son; Sonny Hill.
A mighty soul that will be missed by many who knew him. May God hold you in the palm of his hands.
