Marjorie T. Jones

Marjorie T. “Marge” Jones, 91, passed away on April 18th, 2017. Marge was born May 14th, 1925, in Chicago, IL, and was known for her love of music and her wicked sense of humor. In 1951, she met and married Bob Jones, one of the Top 10 trombone players in the country, who toured with the Big Bands in the Midwest. They settled on the East Side of Chicago, where they opened a portrait studio and their son, Scott, was born. In 1958, they moved to Fort Myers, FL, where their daughter, Robin, was born a couple of years later. By day, Bob worked as a postman while Marge worked as a bookkeeper and an elementary school secretary. At night, Bob frequently performed with his Bob Jones Trio throughout Southwest Florida, with Marge as his biggest fan. Marge and Bob travelled every chance they got, often visiting the Smoky Mountains. After Bob retired from the post office, they moved to North Carolina in 1977 and managed Fort Tatham Campground in Sylva, NC, then built a cabin overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. After Bob passed away in 2001, Marge moved to Sun City Center, FL. She continued to travel the world and was actively involved in the Illinois Club, the Red Hats, and of course playing Pinochle. Marge spent her last year at Bon Secours Maria Manor in St. Petersburg, FL, where under the loving care of her doctor, nurses, and CNAs, she thrived. Marge was always proud of her family: son Scott and daughter Robin, two grandsons Josh and Ben, and five great-grandchildren, Emma, Sofia, Sabrina, Matteo, and Nicholas. Marge will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son Scott T Jones and his wife, Gerry, of Austin, TX, her daughter Robin Lynn Jones of Tampa, FL. Her grandson Joshua Jones and his wife, Susie, and their children, Sabrina and Matteo, of West Hempstead, NY, and her grandson Benjamin Jones and his wife, Alessandra, and their children, Emma, Sofia, and Nicholas, of Susegana, Treviso, Italy. She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Robert T. Jones Jr., and her brother Ronald Thompson, of Ft. Myers, FL.
