

Mrs. Lucy (Jones) Matthews, 100, of Palm Harbor, Florida passed away on to Heaven on October 13, 2024. Lucy was born March 21, 1924 to parents, John W. and Emma Ruth Jones in Prospect, Tennessee. She grew up in Prospect and attended elementary and high school there. Later she attended Peabody College in Nashville where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. When she graduated, she accepted a teaching position in Cocoa, Florida. It was there that she met and married her husband of 74 years, O.B. Matthews, Jr. They became the parents of two children. When Lucy retired from teaching and O.B. retired from Winn Dixie Grocery Company, for many years they spent their time living between their homes in Maggie Valley, North Carolina and Madeira Beach, Florida. Later they relocated to Spring Hill, Florida and then Palm Harbor, Florida.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Emma Ruth Jones, her brother, William Wade Jones, and her husband, O.B. Matthews.
She is survived by daughter, Pamela Peck and husband Skip; son, Dr. Wade Matthews and wife, Marie; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Keystone United Methodist Church, Odessa, Florida, to be announced.
She and her husband will be buried at a later date in the Prospect Cemetery, Prospect, Tennessee.
