A devoted sports fan, John enthusiastically followed the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Pistons. Sports were more than something John watched—they were another way he connected with the people he loved.
John had a creative spirit and enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. Painting was his favorite artistic pursuit, and he took pleasure in bringing his creativity to life through art projects. He also loved golf, tennis, and pickleball, which he enjoyed playing long before it became “cool”.
John loved his family and friends, and treasured time spent with the people closest to him. Whether attending an event, playing cards or sports, or simply relaxing at a friend’s house, John was happiest in good company. And, of course, no gathering was quite complete without his traditional 5 p.m. martini.
John was predeceased by his wife, Susan M. Pierce.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his sons, John D. Pierce and Brit Pierce; stepdaughters, Julie Brennan and Jennifer Wickersham; stepson, Jeff Witzke; grandson, Braden Pierce; granddaughter, Ansley Pierce; step-granddaughters, Sydney and Hannah Wickersham; and step-grandsons, Alex and Connor Wickersham.
John will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his competitive spirit, his creativity, and passion for sports, and the joy he found in simply being together with those he cared about. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
