Jane M Hayes

Sept 8, 1947 - March 9, 2023 – Newfield, NY/Hannawa Falls, NY/Clearwater, FL Jane M. (Scott) Hayes, 75, passed away peacefully in sunny Florida surrounded by family. Holding her hand at the very end was her loving husband, Darrell “Joe” Hayes. Smitten since kindergarten, the lovebirds have been married for 54 years. Jane was born and raised in Potsdam, NY. She was a 1965 graduate of Potsdam Central High School, and earned her Bachelors in Nursing from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown, NY in 1968. She worked at Tompkins County Hospital now Cayuga Medical Center, ultimately leading the Emergency Department until her retirement 33 years later. Joe and Jane split their time between Newfield, their cottage on Hannawa Pond, and Embassy Park in Clearwater, Florida. Jane loved a sunset cruise around the pond or a golf cart ride to visit with friends in the park. Jane was secretary & treasurer of the Embassy Park New York club. Jane is survived by her three Scott Sisters – Carol (Marty) Sears of Hannawa Falls, NY, Sandra (Al) Kingsley of Potsdam, NY, and Gloria (Brad) Furnal of Fairport. She is predeceased by her parents, Donald and Grace (Barclay) Scott of Potsdam, NY. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Lance Johnson, Russell (Marijane) Johnson, Janelle (Brian) Robert, Emily (Jesse) Bavaro, and Eric (Karen) Furnal as well as great nieces and nephew. A celebration of life will take place later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Empath Suncoast Hospice who provided Jane with wonderful care in her final days.
