George was born in Racine, WI on October 3, 1936 to Arthur and Helen Knudsen. George was
the oldest of eight siblings. During his youth, he enjoyed ski jumping with his brothers and sign
painting with his dad at Art Sign Company.
In July 1956, he married the love of his life, Carol. Married for 69 years, they built a wonderful life
together—raising three children, traveling together, and eventually retiring in Pinellas Park, where
they made dear friendships and countless memories.
George spent the early years of his career trying on many hats until finding his professional home
at Derse Advertising in 1973. There, he became General Manager of the Racine division until he
retired in 1997.
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, George made
the most of his life with hard work and dedication and a golf club never far from reach. As often as
he could, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s athletic activities, as he was quite
the athlete himself, playing ball with his brothers and sons. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers
fan, cheering on his team with unwavering loyalty.
George was a skilled handyman who could build just about anything. From remodeling cottages to
tackling tough repairs, he had a knack for figuring things out and making them work. His creativity
and craftsmanship touched every project he took on.
In retirement, George cherished the simple pleasures of life: enjoying his northern cottage retreat
for many years before moving south to Florida. There he spent time with Carol and her two
sisters, Shirley and Fay, enjoying golf, playing cards, going out to eat, laughing, and making friends.
He was a lifelong Christian. He and Carol attended Grace Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg FL
before moving to SC.
He was known for his wit, his generosity, and above all, being a tough SOB who faced life – and
cancer — with unshakable strength and a sharp sense of humor.
George will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife: Carol (Czarnowski) Knudsen, children: Gary (Tammy) Knudsen, Greg
(Shawna) Knudsen, Pam (Steve) Wallert, his 7 grandchildren: Brady (Emma ) Knudsen, Randy
