Doreen Elizabeth Meyer, known to her friends and family as “Reenie”, died on January 26, 2025 in Palm Harbor, Florida at the age of 71. Reenie was born in Rockville Centre, New York on September 9, 1953 to Charles Raymond Keller and Doris Elaine Atkinson. She was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Marilyn and Matthew DeCelle. Reenie Graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Montclair State College.
Reenie married Mark Heter in 1974. She worked as a nursing coordinator at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and gave birth to all three of her sons there. Reenie and her family moved down to Orlando, Florida in 1985, where Reenie took time to raise her sons as a stay-at-home mom. She later worked part time as a teacher’s aide at Arbor Ridge Elementary school. In 1995 she moved back to Montclair, New Jersey with her family where she worked as a staffing coordinator at Broadway House for Continuing Care in Newark, New Jersey.
Reenie remarried Gunther Meyer in 2007 while living in Apex, North Carolina and they moved down to Palm Harbor, Florida in 2019 to settle into their forever home near the beach and so they could be close to family in Central Florida.
Reenie’s passions were her cats, collecting shells, visiting lighthouses, travelling, gardening and crafting. She often incorporated the shells she collected into her creations. She always had cats around her and they adored her.
Reenie is survived by her beloved husband Gunther of 17 years. She is also survived by her three children: oldest Carson Lea Heter, his wife Jessica Marie Heter and son William Lea Heter; middle son Andrew Russel Heter and youngest son Michael Stuart Heter.
The family will be holding a private remembrance. We ask that you include her husband and her children in your thoughts and prayers in their time of loss.
Reenie spent her last years in her forever home close to Honeymoon Island in Florida, where she loved to go shelling, working in the yard and playing with her cats.
