Dennis Drew Burnside

September 17, 1949 – August 17, 2026
Obituary of Dennis Drew Burnside

Dennis Drew Burnside (DB), of Treasure Island, Florida, passed away on Monday, August 17th at the age of 76. He was born September, 17, 1949 in Denton, Texas, where he grew up until his family moved to Treasure Island in 1957.

He graduated from Boca Ciega High School and went on to earn his degree in Fine Arts from Saint Leo University in the early 1970s. A dedicated and skilled craftsman, he spent 22 years working as a machinist at the St. Petersburg Times. A true son of the coast, Dennis was actively involved in sailing the local waters of the Tampa Bay area, finding peace, adventure, and joy on the open waves. Fond memories held close by all who loved him include the family trips made to their cabin in North Georgia—days filled with camping, hiking, playing cards, and, always, sailing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tex and Alice Burnside.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; children, Wesley and Wendy; sister, Marilyn; and grandchildren, Erik and Ethan.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Suncoast Hospice / Empath Health for the incredible care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering at Fort Desoto, with the specific date in October to be determined and announced at a later date.

Dennis was full of life, loved to smile and laugh. He cared very deeply for his family and friends. He was the life of the party and was always available to help others. He will be greatly missed.

"Fair winds and following seas, Dennis. Your spirit will forever guide our sails."
