On July 28 2022, After 75 years of growth and love in Christ, David Darryl Hite’s body has been laid to rest, as his soul lives on in heaven and his memories in the hearts of thousands.
He was born 10-07-1946 in Pontiac, Michigan to Fredrick and Illene Hite. He had two brothers Kerry and Bill. He grew up in Berkley, Michigan where he loved to play baseball, stay out till the street lights came on and delivered papers for the Detroit News. He had a passion for the music of that time, especially Motown & Elvis. And started an extensive record collection.
He served in the US Army from 1967 – 1969 Trained in Fort Gordon GA and spent 9 months in Germany.
In 1971 he married Therese “T.C.” Hite (Gagnon). They had two sons,
Darin R Hite and Matthew D Hite.
They celebrated 51 years of marriage this year.
David and T.C. bought the Bay Motel in Alpena Michigan in 1984. His goal was to make a better life for his family. Alpena became his home for 32 years. Through the years he made many friends from town and around the world. Dave was an avid Bowler and enjoyed his bowling buddies at Thunder Bowl Lanes. He also served on the CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau) for many years. He was filled with interesting stories and lessons learned through the years of serving the public. He found it a joy to serve people. He loved listening to them share their problems and dreams. He would take time to console and pray with the broken hearted and help those in need. He would laugh with them and also wipe their tears. He took joy in giving the weary traveler a place to lay their tired heads and find a safe comfortable place away from home. He loved the summer nights with a nice campfire, s’mores and great conversations with strangers passing through.
As the years passed and his health declined, he and his wife longed to retire and move to Florida. In 2016 God Blessed them with an incredible community Gull Aire Village in Oldsmar, Florida. He found joy everyday meeting his new neighbors and making good friends. Playing cards, Bunco, Bingo, Dances, playing Marbles (putting people back in the Kitchen) and trying to be good at Shuffleboard. But his favorite of all was Singing Karaoke. We think he even had some groupies. His friends will remember his Dry but crazy sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his Father Fredrick Hite, Mother Illene (Berkley Michigan)
His Son Darin R Hite. (Sandusky, Ohio)
Surviving:
Wife Therese “T.C.” Hite (Gagnon)
