Yolanda Lowery was born in Texas a long time ago to Elvira and Higinio Chaires. She grew up believing in fairy tales and magic. As she grew older, every day became special to her. She loved hacking around a nine-hole golf course (not keeping score) and overbidding at the Bridge table just to see what would happen. She loved to travel, especially Europe, which she did most of her life with her husband, and in her later years with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful and generous mother and grandmother, and dearly loved her children and grandchildren, her friends, and her several beautiful dogs that worked their way into her life through the years. Life was a beach, especially in her later years.
Who says you can’t learn to dance Flamenco in your seventieth year? Although Yolanda never did learn, she tried, when she spent a month in Spain taking lessons, the experience helping her cope with the death of her beloved husband, Bob. They were happily married for 45 years. Her son Jeff died in her 82nd year. He was a creative and outrageous person who could always make her laugh.
Yolanda was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Mark, his wife, Jane and their children, Michael, recently married Madeline (Michael) Brajdic, and Allison of Lewis Center, OH. She is also survived by her three nieces, Janine (Shell) Buckner of Flower Mound, TX, Suzette Chaires of Arlington, TX, and Annette Chaires of Austin TX, and her sister-in-law Judy Wertz and niece DeAnne Small, both of Lancaster, SC.
A memorial service will be held at a later TBD date due to the pandemic, but please keep Yolanda in your thoughts and prayers until then. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local animal shelter, knowing it would bring a smile to her face.
