Steve was born on August 19, 1945 to Harold and Ruth McKibben in Covington, Kentucky.
In 1966, Steve met Vickie Coleman at Georgetown College and they married in 1968.
After graduating from Georgetown College with a degree in Music, he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. After graduating from seminary, Steve accepted the call to be the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, Tarboro, NC where he served for 10 years.
It was there that they were blessed with twin girls, Dawn and Joy, in 1975.
In 1979, Steve accepted the call to be the Worship Pastor at Carmel Baptist Church, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He faithfully served in that role for 30 years until his retirement in 2009.
Three of the greatest joys of Steve’s life were his family, music and Kentucky basketball. It was Steve’s greatest honor to be able to bring people into the presence of the Lord through music in worship. He cherished the times where his family would gather together and most of those times included singing as a family around the piano.
Steve is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vickie, daughters Dawn VanHoy (Brad), Joy Burrow (Dean), grandchildren Ava, Coleman, Austin, Lexi, and Lauren and his brother, Bill McKibben.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Calvary Church at 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road; Charlotte, NC on Saturday, May 27 at 11am with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Calvary Church in memory of Steve.
